Director, Independent Evaluation Office, Global Environment Facility
Dr. Juha I. Uitto is Director of the independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF). He is considered a thought and practice leader in evaluating environment in international development. During his more than 30-year career, he has worked as evaluator with the GEF and UNDP, where he served as Deputy Director of the UNDP-IEO and, prior to that, Evaluation Advisor. Throughout the 1990s, he was environment and sustainable development research and training program manager at the United Nations University (UNU). His latest books include ‘Transformational Change for People and the Planet: Evaluating Environment and Development’ (2022; co-edited), ‘Environmental Evaluation and Global Development Institutions: A Case Study of the Global Environment Facility’ (2022; co-authored), and ‘Evaluating Environment in International Development (2021). He holds a PhD in Social and Economic Geography.
